This is my last President's address, and tomorrow is a new Rotary year!
Thanks to all our members for hanging in there and helping to achieve our goals despite the pandemic.
We raised $1,800 in Happy Dollars for Clara Maass which was no small feat considering we had at least half the meetings as usual.
We had a service project every month and in addition to helping others became much more visible in the community.
We earned the Governor's Cup and the Rotary Citation! And Governor Ann announced last night that we received a plaque for the Communications Award, given to us for consistent reporting. Ann receives and reads this bulletin and loved hearing about all that we accomplished this year.
Nutley Rotarians are people of action, dedicated to service, in our community, and globally.
Nutley Rotary’s Mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
Thanks to all of you we kept going and did our best to raise funds and help the community.
Stay safe,
Dorothy
Rotarian of the Year
Something I learned early on in my Rotary experience is that
one can either be a member of Rotary or a Rotarian.
My choice for Rotarian of the year exemplifies what it means to be a Rotarian.
This person speaks up whenever volunteers are requested and does her best to contribute service as well as donations.
On the same day she joined, she asked if she could help with bread, which I had been doing alone up to that point. She has consistently been joining me for this service project which now happens every week, as we get bread for the NFSB distribution as well as for Seniors. It is very nice to have a partner in this endeavor.
She joined the Service committee and took the initiative to lead our sock donation by researching and acquiring socks for our September project,
helping hospitals during covid with this donation.
She attends meetings, joined my board this year and shows up whenever she can. She helped with packing the Veterans’ thank you boxes,
and she has a passion for helping Veterans.
Her first full year of Rotary quickly entered the Covid phase but that did not stop JoAnn Scarpelli from participating and doing what she could to be a true Rotarian. Thank you, JoAnn, you are my Rotarian of the year!
At Rotary, we have no tolerance for racism. Promoting respect, celebrating diversity, demanding ethical leadership, and working tirelessly to advance peace are central tenets of our work.
We have more work to do to create more just, open and welcoming communities for all people.
We know there are no easy fixes and that challenging conversations and work lie before all of us. Rotary’s strength has long been our ability and commitment to bringing people together. We will tap into that strength now as we stand with those who are working for peace and justice.
Rotary will do our part to listen, learn and take action to ensure that we continue to contribute to making positive change.
