This week's meeting: On Thursday we will welcome Laurie Braun who will be speaking to us about Gift of Life:
This organization was started in 1985 to provide resources to children with congenital heart defects from anywhere in the world. There are 5 million children worldwide with congenital heart defects that often times requires a simple procedure that local medical professionals cannot perform because of limited training or the lack of necessary medical equipment.
The Gift of Life New Jersey brings children here for their life saving heart surgeries or dispatches medical missions to countries across the world not only for surgery but train medical professionals and provide medical equipment that will help local doctors and nurses save endless number of lives.
Nutley Rotary Monthly Food Drive,
first Thursday June 7!
Please remember to bring your food donations
to our meeting tomorrow
and we will make sure they get delivered to the NFSB
In August we have two very easy and fun opportunities for you! As you may know, our District 7475 sends students to Japan and also hosts students from Japan in the summer, and we have the opportunity to join our Japanese visitors for a trip to Point Pleasant. It's pretty easy, the bus takes us and brings us home and our club pays for beach chairs, umbrellas and food. Mark your calendar for August 8th and reply to this email if you are interested!
The other opportunity is to visit Camp Merry Heart, also in August, and enjoy the day with the campers and counselors, other Rotarians and a nice barbecued dinner.
Our Club donates carnival prizes and a DJ to the event - and every summer we offer a campership to a Nutley youth. It's always a fun time (Date: TBD)
Rotary Foundation Q&A, by Bob Peters
Question: What is the Rotary Foundation?
Answer: The Rotary Foundation was established to provide funds for all of the programs and grants that RI has made available to Rotary clubs and the world.
Every Rotarian pays dues to Rotary International and our Districts. Those funds are used for administration purposes. RI is just like any other non-profit business. They have overhead, salaries, and all of the other normal expenses.
The Rotary Foundation provides, through voluntary donations, the funds needed to carry out all of its missions. Post graduate studies, Peace Scholars, PolioPlus, clean water projects and a myriad of other programs.
The Foundation was established over 100 years ago to support Rotary and is one of the highest rated charities in America, and has the highest rating (A+) rating from Charity Watch and Charity Navigator (4 stars).
Monies donated each year through club support, Paul Harris Fellows and the Paul Harris Society are invested for 3 years with the earnings used to help cover the administration of the Foundation.
All Rotarians are encouraged to donate every year to help keep the Foundation fully funded. A $100 donation makes you a sustaining member. If we achieve an average of $100 per member per year, with all members donating, our club will be recognized at the District Conference. Click here for more info: Rotary Foundation
